Why Flagler Beach Is Not For Everyone
Have you ever vacationed in Flagler Beach? When we think of Florida beach vacations we think of places like South Beach in Miami or the famous Fort Lauderdale Beach.
Most of the very well known beaches are close to a lot of action in larger cities with huge populations and tons of amusement parks, major hotel chains and a Red Lobster or Olive Garden restaurant on just about every corner.
If that is what you’re looking for when planning a beach vacation you won’t be interested in Flagler Beach because the town is small and just a dot on the map in northeast Florida with a population of about 6000 people and many of them have homes up north, living in Flagler Beach during the winter months.
Flagler Beach has six miles of natural beach, a small pier, a few small motels and several bed & breakfast inns. All of the restaurants are privately owned with no national recognition! There’s no mall, no McDonald’s, no amusement parks and no luxury resorts.
Think back to when you were a child, do you remember going to parts of Florida where there were no towering condo developments, massive hotel chains side-by-side and the same restaurants you had in your own state. Of course, Daytona Beach and Miami have always been this way but there used to be other places like Saint Petersburg, Pensacola and other Florida towns that seemed like they were far away from everything. Saint Petersburg and Pensacola are more commercialized today and there just aren’t many natural vacation spots left in Florida.
